I'm guessing, the B&R project seeks to demonstrate China as a trusted trade partner, and it threatens US global dominance. I'm sure you're aware, Latin American nations do not trust the US and they may choose to trade more with China to counteract the US' control. I don't think China wants a war, but the US will struggle with the shift in power. Maybe the US and China will keep each other in check and the world will be more balanced... That's best case scenario. Ha.
