We write about issues we care about, which compels addressing and expressing our emotions. This is often therapeutic, but I have plenty of half-written drafts that are too painful to finish. I struggle with ignoring or stifling my feelings, but it's impossible to process everything, and some topics are too much to bear.
Hopefully, writing helps to express your grief and release some pain, and it's a healthier option than drugs and alcohol, which a large cohort seems to prefer. I don't blame or judge them - we need escapism to cope with dystopia.
