We must remain segregated because we'd destroy the structure if we united. MLK, X, and Hampton understood this tactic too well, and they were murdered for it.

Segregation and poverty are profitable. Homes in white neighborhoods are more expensive than in POC, while rent tends to be high everywhere, but Redlining intentionally created this. Racial boundaries and racism promoted investments in white and discouraged developments in black suburbs.

Financial institutions assigned a higher value by artificially creating more expensive suburbs and charging POC higher lender's fees. This practice also increased demand because people want fresh food, schools, parks, etc. near their homes.

I'm not explaining this clearly, but urban spatial economics covers it.

Poverty creates jobs and loopholes for our lovely philanthropy class. Police, jails, and the judicial system wouldn't be half as large if everyone had basic needs.

So, ya, you're right. It's a cruel feature.
