We don't realize how much agony the US inflicts on the world. It was the GLOBAL Financial Crisis because we live in a GLOBAL world, but Americans act like isolationists within our neighborhoods.

While traveling, I encountered everyone making fun of everything American, but every nation pokes at other nations. Americans just didn't realize other nations existed until Trump embarrassed us, and now we realize the world makes fun of us, but at least we acknowledge there's others out there.
