US social media platforms censor accounts and info, and countless people claim algorithm shadow bans suppress their feeds. I wouldn't be surprised if Medium restricts controversial articles.
Self-censorship is undoubtedly prevalent because opinions that disagree with the mainstream media and socio-political narrative are often threatened, ridiculed, shamed, and name-called instead of debated.
Diverse perspectives should be allowed and supported because they facilitate dialogue that compels us to analyze our views and learn from each other. Furthermore, silencing people doesn't stop them from developing conflicting opinions, but the alienation could encourage them to join extremist fringe groups.
Perhaps face-to-face discussions are a better platform for debates, but I don't believe Medium or most social media welcome diverse perspectives.
