US economics doesn't wait for our taxes or use them to decide budgets. The treasury creates money digitally. Where do you think the money for the Covid support came from? It's created and the government has been doing this since WWII. The government issues tax as a mechanism to get us to work, but it's our time and participation in the economic markets that is the real creator of wealth.

I agree it wouldn't fly because since the Red Scare, we've been conditioned to believe socialism kills, and the term socialism is used to drive the fear in us. The government doesn't want to deviate from trickle-down economics and the corporate marketing campaigns are working very hard to keep us from voting in our best interests.

The lack of government transparency and economic knowledge within the public is the most significant problem we have. We've been manipulated for so long, not many Americans can explain our current economic model. It's just sad.
