There is No Solidarity or Public Trust
American patriotism is country first, and citizens last.
We trust TV hosts making 30 million dollars a year and multimillionaire politicians more than we trust each other. Their high-class benefactors pay them to sell wars, fear, disinformation, divisions, and cheap labor, and we don't have universal healthcare because private business owners won't allow it. Yet, we believe our preferred "political party and spokespersons" work for us — the public.
The rich exploit us to amass their fortune, and our government facilitates the exploitation to maintain power. We elect politicians to represent American business owners (not small to medium businesses), and this is not democratic, but we don't have constructive discussions. Every conversation descends into a culture war, bypassing any meaningful discourse.
If we genuinely cared about our country, we'd fight for each other instead of the oligarchs and our corrupted government. We would support the rail and Alabama coal miners' strike or any class wars. We would demand human rights, housing for all, debt relief, healthcare, and public goods and services. But, no. We believe patriotism is country first and citizens last.
