There are so many artists on Spotify, and canceling subscriptions because Rogan is a piece of shit dismisses every artist on the platform. The company pays peanuts for artists' material, yet we're willing to end our subscription to combat a dumb bigot instead of fighting on behalf of the poorly paid artists.
We're fighting the wrong fights, and we're always on the backfoot because of it. Instead of focusing and giving more attention to Rogan, we could support the rise of his opposition. We need more loud, intelligent voices on the left, but we waste our time on the psychobabble, and it's an endless distraction that leads nowhere. If Spotify cancels Rogan's show, what will that solve? It won't stop the horrendous shit he spews. He'll create a platform or join another, and there will always be another Rogan to take his place.
My theory is Rogan provides lonely men (women too, but it seems to be more men) a community. We should be building an honest, trusted, relatable voice that rivals these meatheads because the more individualized and alienated we become, the more likely we'll latch onto any community we can find. Of course, racist bigots exist, but we're better off building a voice that promotes equality instead of expending efforts on assholes.
