The medical staff's defensive reaction is shocking and inappropriate. They knew the drug's effect yet continued administering it when there are numerous medications that could have been administered for your parent's conditions.
After witnessing too many friends and family become addicted to the "non-addictive painkillers" that the FDA approved, pharmaceutical companies pushed, and (some) doctors eagerly prescribed, your concern is reasonable.
My sister died of cancer, but thankfully, she was not given midazolam. Ugh. A business objective is to make a profit, so why the f*ck would the government privatize aged care facilities? Friends who have worked in AC were so traumatized that they went on stress leave and never returned to nursing. I might contact one of them, but discussing these matters still upsets her.
