The expression, " you don't know what you don't know" comes to mind, but what happened to curiosity and asking people questions? A dominant theme in American culture is to sell yourself, and in the process, we don't learn anything about anyone else. The culture conditions us to persuade others we're great, but we are so focused on "being great" we don't even know what we are.

It's sad and infuriating.
