No, we can't just stop fossil fuels, but we could get serious about an energy transition. Governments could subsidize oil prices for the public and invest in renewable energy instead of fossil fuel projects, but oil-producing nations don't want to relinquish profits and power.

Australia uses renewable energy to power its mines, yet can't seem to figure out how to provide RE for public consumption. Interesting.

Oil-import-dependent countries benefit the most from RE, but who the f*ck would want to ask the IMF for a loan? China's lending capabilities offer countries options, but the US is hell-bent on maintaining power via controlling oil and gas.
