My reply was to Dave's statement, "I kind of doubt the defence industry is calling the wars," and I don't believe striving for profit is greedy. A company's objective is to make a profit, and they need business activities to maintain operations.

The US pays private weapon manufacturers, and these companies rely on government contracts and activities for profit margins. The financial model is a conflict of interest, but more concerning is the lack of campaign finance regulations and corruption oversight.

However, removing the weapon manufacturing incentive wouldn't eliminate profit because wars aren't solely waged for Lockheed, Raytheon, etc. Recent wars have been over resources and economic dominance/power, but one could argue the US destroyed Afghanistan to kill a few terrorists.

We don't know how a world without capitalism would look, but imperialism instigates wars as empires seek expansion.
