It's a fine line between socialism and state capitalism. The US doesn't adhere to the social values of socialism yet uses state capitalism to uphold the social values for a select few. Ideally, socialist policies would benefit the majority of society and capitalism would exist alongside socialism but only to provide financial contributions to benefit society.
I started writing an essay on all the tech the US government financied and developed using public funds yet gifted to private business who profit from onselling the innovation to the public. Essentially, we pay not once but twice for these products that we technically own.
The US National Science Foundation (NSF) funded the developments of Google, Smart Phones, Tesla, the Internet, and numerous innovations. Nations also funded the development of vaccinations and then had to buy them (again). Imagine if we were the shareholders instead of the stakeholders...
