I'm an American living in Melbourne, and living standards are better than in the US, but Australian home prices are out of this world. However, disposable incomes decreased dramatically in the last four years, especially in Australia.

I read Australia suffered the most significant rise in living costs among Western nations. We're still better off than comparative countries, but we feel the pain. I can't imagine living in Sydney right now - at least it's a beautiful city.
