I love soccer more than any hobby. I was an addict during my teenage years and played in college, but this is when I began to dislike the sport because competing against teammates for a position turned me off. I stopped playing for a few years and followed the same path as you. I partied my face off and focused on socializing, but eventually I missed the fulfillment of playing soccer and a team.

Playing indoor soccer, 7 aside, and finally joining a competitive league in my late twenties, was the best decision I made. I'm 39 now and still play competitively. It often feels like I got hit by a truck after playing a tough game against 22 year olds, but I've learned the importance of post-game stretching/cool down and lifting weights significantly reduces the muscle aches.

As we age we learn to play smarter to make up for losing skills like speed. There will be a day I will retire the cleats, but if you love the sport as much as I do, and it sounds like you do, keep playing for as long as it brings you joy. I love being apart of a team and everything that comes along with soccer.

Thanks for sharing! This article made me smile.

We need the social with the science to call it economics.
