I hear you. I left when I was 29, and I keep fighting from abroad. I always thought I'd move back, but every year it gets worse. There's nothing like home, but there's nothing like safety. As soon as I left, I stopped getting anxiety attacks, and things aren't perfect in Australia, but they aren't as bad as in the US. I don't doubt the country will be in a civil war within the next decade.

I miss California's nature so much. The smell of jasmine in the Santa Ana winds that blow across Southern California. Ugh.

Costa Rica is a great country. I believe if you buy property, you qualify for permanent residency, and they offer health care. Plus, they're the most lovely people. I read a lot of ex-pats move there for the quality of life. xo
