I have been asking myself this question for at least a decade - "How much can our civilization take?"
A global pandemic should have been the catalyst for significant change, but we need solidarity or a government that represents our interests.
Greenhouse gas emissions are only one aspect of climate change. We've completely altered the environment by diverting rivers, reshaping landscapes, developments, agriculture, deforestation, etc. There's no doubt our activities have contributed to erosion.
Also, most of the pipes that deliver water to cities haven't been upgraded since the New Deal. That's a bit scary for numerous reasons, but it's especially terrifying that our infrastructure can't withstand today's erratic weather. We're one storm away from total collapse.
We could fix all of these things, and the cost isn't the issue. Profit margins have to be worth the investment! What a world.
