I feel you. When I left the US in 2004 to travel abroad, my thoughts and perspectives began changing. I did not want to leave Latin America and was fortunate to obtain a job that allowed me to stay longer. When I returned to the US, it didn't fit me anymore. It's like the spell was broken and I could not buy the dream anymore.

Moving to Australia in 2010 was the best decision I made. The toxic individualism and every "opinion matters" culture is painful to see because Americans can be so friendly. I am so thankful I'm not living it, but I can't turn off the American in me and stop caring about all of its drama.

I'll never be "Australian" and I'll never be "American" again. Being American is too intense and loud. I cherish the silence and peace Australia gives to me, and wouldn't exchange it for anything.
