Hahaha!
Electric cars and rechargeable batteries have been around for almost two centuries. Perhaps, they would have continued to innovate EVs if petroleum subsidies didn't push them out of the market.
I can't remember the exact details of the story, but I'll summarize it. In the 1990s, a high-tech EV model appeared in California, but car manufacturers or fossil fuel giants won a court case that led to banning the EVs. The cars were stripped from consumers, ending the attempt to re-introduce the vehicles.
Elon Musk did not kickstart the electric car revolution. He stumbled upon (or a smart market researcher advised him) a gap in regulations that maintained fossil fuel profits and power.
I'm also convinced public relations experts create a persona for these self-absorbed freaks, and Muskrat chose to be a 'genius'. I try to ignore him, but he's really lonely and needs a lot of attention.
Elon offered the public a glimpse of the dumb shit American oligarchs purchase. Twitter, really? It should be nationalized, but public ownership is a no-no in the US. I also think middle-class baby boomers (mostly white males) idolize Musky because they perceive him as their generation's ethical capitalist environmentalist.
Of all the people to idolize!
