Great article.

I think about the topics you've mentioned all the time, and I believe in today's social, political, and economic structure we have to act selfishly.

At a macro level, the world is greedy, but aside from workplaces, I seldomly meet selfish individuals. People tend to go out of their way to help others, and while solo traveling overseas, I noticed the less capitalistic/individualistic societies were the most giving.

So, is it nature or nurture? I think nurture, but I doubt we'll live long enough to see how our culture behaves in another environment. Our sole purpose is to generate profit, and if the process of wealth creation fulfilled basic needs maybe it wouldn't be so disgusting, but the high rates of suicide, addiction, and despair signal a collective warning.

We need the social with the science to call it economics.
