Forbes spews propaganda. An article about Castro's wealth included all of Cuba's wealth as if it was Fidel's finances.
I went to a public high school in Los Angeles in the 90s, and now, friends' kids attend the same schools. They adamantly agree education has deteriorated since the 90s. California endured massive cuts to public services following the Enron scandal and Arnold's policies to lower the state's debt. The rise of Charter schools owned by wealthy individuals or cohorts claim to offer a solution, yet they receive public funding, and the budget for education hasn't increased.
Funds diverted to Charter schools further diminish public education, but funding for schools isn't the only issue. The working class' stagnant wages, stress, financial hardship, and longer working hours impacts children's learning. Financial difficulties strongly impact family breakdowns and education, and as more families fall into poverty, more kids go hungry. I don't know about you, but I can't concentrate when I'm hungry. Providing school meals is essential for learning.
There are so many ripple effects from our backward system. Ugh.
