Everyone should question the narrative, and if it triggers an emotional response, we should ask ourselves why. We're talking about governments, not people we know personally. We act as though we are our country, but do we have independent thoughts if we can't separate our identity from our government?

We won't know the truth for years, if ever and if we survive that long, but we know this is dangerous. I try to remember everyone is scared, and people want to believe there's a hero, but there's nothing heroic about hating and killing.

Americans actively silence each other because they believe wholeheartedly in our government, and it makes sense that many Spaniards didn't know they were under fascist rule until decades later.
