But Michael! Time is money, and our socio-economic system coerces us to be productive. What are we when we aren't generating artificial value for shareholders who need forever growth dividends?
This conditioning is so embedded into our psyche that we feel guilty when we sit on the couch too long. How intrusive and repressive is that?? Well, I say tell that ideology to stfu and let us enjoy the minimal free time we have staring at walls if that's what tickles our fancy.
I spent years deprogramming, and now, I love staring at my white walls while lying on the couch (clouds are great too, but weather permitting). Sometimes, I connect points on the wall to create an animal shape, and it's way more valuable than pointlessly generating artificially constructed wealth for people who are never satisfied.
Our brains can't think creatively when they're always consumed with busy work, and there are countless do-nothing benefits. It's liberating to let go of the forever growth-consumption world and chill the f*ck out, making your time yours.
The campaign for do nothing shouldn't be a hard sell. Do more nothing! Great piece!
