Addictions and mental health issues rarely cause homelessness - it's the reverse. People become addicts and suffer poor mental health from living on the streets.
Mental health problems and drug use (including alcohol, listed separately because it's socially acceptable) are prevalent throughout society, regardless of wealth. Most people struggle to endure our mundane, depressing existence sober, yet we judge homeless people's coping methods.
Isn't it interesting that a country that prides itself on patriotism and superiority doesn't care about the people? American billionaires enriched themselves by suppressing wages and receiving public funds (welfare), confiscating billions from workers over the last 50 years. But they deserve it, and the homeless should try harder not to be poor.
